Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and allows a reconstituted vial to be used safely over multiple draws. It is the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilized research peptides.

Benefits

  • Preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol — safe for multi-dose vials
  • Standard diluent compatible with virtually all research peptides
  • Extends usable life of reconstituted peptides (typically up to ~28 days refrigerated)
  • Sterile and filtered for laboratory use

Considerations

  • Not for use in patients hypersensitive to benzyl alcohol
  • Must be stored properly to maintain sterility
  • Single-vial shelf life is shorter once punctured

Protocol

Use a sterile syringe to withdraw the desired volume of BAC water and slowly inject down the inside wall of the peptide vial. Gently swirl — do not shake — until fully dissolved. Store reconstituted vials refrigerated.

Dosage

Volume depends on the peptide and desired concentration. Common reconstitutions use 1–3 mL of BAC water per vial. Refer to each peptide's reconstitution guide.

Reconstitution

Available in 3 mL and 10 mL vials. Withdraw with a sterile syringe; do not contaminate the stopper. Refrigerate after opening and discard after ~28 days or per your protocol.

Always use bacteriostatic water (BAC), sterile technique and store reconstituted vials refrigerated unless otherwise noted.
